Showing Character Points of View using Voice
Well it's been a while since our last upload. Be on the lookout for a major update of pictures to our class blog while I am out on maternity leave. I wanted to share our latest project with you! We used one of our new common core standards to produce a lesson on voice. The children are to be able to show different character points of view through voice inflections. Mrs. Lewis and I worked together to help the children see how important it is to know your character and create a voice for that character as you read. This helps make reading more interesting and helps your books come to life. We showed the children how certain characters would have certain voices. For instance, they watched short clips of Elmo, a baby, a robot, a grandma, and a drill sergeant. Through these videos they saw how each person spoke with a different voice. They were then given passages to practice, and taught how to use flip cameras to record their partners. The end result is posted below. Check them out. They all did a great job learning how to change their voice to reflect the character!

You've Got a Friend in Me!
New class = New Friends! We partnered with our new friends and created a Venn diagram to see how we were alike and different!
First Day Jitters
The first day was filled with excitement. You could feel it in the air. There is no better way to get rid of the first day jitters than by drinking some jitter juice and reading The First Day Jitters.
The students had to guess what they thought was in jitter juice and write the recipe. Overall, the kids loved it and they never guessed my secret ingredient... White Grape Juice!
